The tiny Caribbean island of Dominica has a new president following an election boycotted by the main opposition party.
Parliament has chosen retired government administrator Eluid Williams to replace former President Nicholas Liverpool, who resigned because of health reasons. Members of the opposition United Workers Party say they are challenging Monday's vote in court because they claim the election process was unconstitutional.
Williams has held several high-level administrative positions in the country of more than 73,000 people. He is expected to remain in office until the October 2013 general elections. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is head of government on the island.
